I place a much higher priority on my pets health than my own.
After having multiple dogs over forty years of being an adult and owning pets I’ve learned something about myself. I place a much higher priority on my pets health than my own. I’m certain that’s not a good thing for me but it’s real. I only get the best food, treats and toys for my dogs and I get so much joy out of that.
One of the things that I’ve done that helps me stay on budget and still have multiple dogs at one time – is having pet insurance. My trick for affording multiple dogs is signing up right when they’re puppies. Rates are nothing as puppies in comparison to when they’re five or six years old. I do this consistently because if something is going to go wrong, unless it’s a random accident or they accidentally eat something they shouldn’t – things like cancer or heart issues are going to show up before you get five or six years in.
I’m partial to Pugs and Goldens and I’ve had three of them get cancer and I’ve had coverage that’s helped offset treatment costs. It’s not just cancer treatment, but lots of issues large and small have been covered and all of it adds up, and HELPS.
I’d be embarrassed to share the amount of money that I’ve spent on my dogs, but I’d be even more embarrassed if I hadn’t had pet insurance for the last fifteen years because that number would be so much higher. For me pet insurance is a necessity because I know when it comes to my kids, I’m going to do whatever I have to.
